Einstein Bariatrics follows protocols that are derived from the National Institutes of Health in determining someone’s candidacy for surgery.

Patients are candidates if they meet the following criteria:

• About 100 pounds over their ideal body weight (IBW)

• BMI range >40 OR BMI >35 with a significant weight related co-morbidity

• Calculate your BMI

• A well-informed patient

• Age range 13 to 74 years*

• No active drug and/or alcohol abuse

• Willingness to participate in long-term follow-up care

• Willingness to take vitamins and minerals as prescribed

• Weight-related impairment in quality of life

* Patients who are younger than 18 require special consideration. Einstein Bariatrics offers a special program to these patients and their families, and family counseling is mandatory before and after surgery. Contact us at 215-663-6422 for more information.
