How does insurance work?

Many insurance companies will pay for bariatric surgery when deemed medically necessary. Einstein Bariatrics can assist in the insurance pre-authorization. The only way to know if your insurance company covers surgery is to get an explanation of benefits. If your insurance company covers surgery, you will want to know your deductible and co-pays. Some insurers require a medically supervised diet of varying lengths (six months or longer) prior to approving bariatric surgery.

If your insurance company does not cover bariatric surgery, but you and your surgeon believe that you are a candidate, you have the option to self-pay.
