The Pre-Op Program
A number of steps must be completed during the pre-op process. First, you and the surgeon will meet and individually discuss your health and answer your questions concerning surgery. Then you must obtain tests and labs that your surgeon feels are necessary before you can safely proceed to surgery. You will also be scheduled to meet our LifeStyle Management Team. Finally, you will meet the surgeon two weeks before surgery. Click here to read more details about the pre-op process.
LifeStyle Management Program
Our LifeStyle Management Team consists of dedicated psychologists, dietitians and exercise therapists. These specialists are important in your transformation to a healthier you. This is the team that will help you learn all the health habits and behavioral techniques that can last for many years after surgery. Regularly scheduled support groups that are run by experts help patients continue their success long after surgery.
Special Programs
The epidemic of obesity that is striking American adults is also affecting their children. Currently 15 percent of children are considered obese and five percent are considered morbidly obese - that is, more than 100 pounds overweight.
Bariatric surgery operations have been performed since the 1950s. Unlike the gastric bypass, a number of operations were performed that had only short-term success with a very high incidence of long-term failure or had an unacceptably high incidence of severe complications. Examples of these include the jejunoileal bypass and the gastroplasty (or stomach stapling). At least 15 percent of patients who have had the Lap-Band® will require removal or revision.
We can offer revisions to those patients who have had prior failed bariatric surgery, often through minimally invasive approaches.
